Tricks to help you find hostel jobs:

Obviously, hostels are awesome and working in one could possibly be the best time of your life.

You get to meet people from all around the world and learn about different cultures every day.

Even though hostel jobs are often available to travelers passing through, hostels do have high standards about who they’ll take on board. You can’t just expect a hostel to give you a job because you asked them.

Before you get to your destination, do some research on the hostels around there. Send emails asking about work exchange possibilities. Include your traveling dates and any experience you have. Most hostels will want people that can stay for a while. Also, even if you send your information ahead, most places will want to meet you beforehand. They might set-up a Skype interview, or they might ask that you be a guest for a few days before starting work. That’s good for both parties because what if you don’t like the place once you’re there?

If you’re already in a hostel and wonder about the possibility of working there, first of all, be a cool guest! If you’ve been rude to the staff or you’re being a jerk to everyone you walk by, well, don’t count on getting a job anytime soon. Staff can feel the vibe of every guest and will share any doubts they have about someone to the manager. So please, be cool.
